No, MPL did have a parachute, just like all the other landers. EDL for MPL was similar to MER - but at the point when MER would rapel down a cable and inflate airbags, the MPL lander simply drops out the back of the backshell having deployed its landing legs, and then used it's engines to throttle up and down to the surface.
The backshell and chute would appear similar to MER and MPF's backshell and chute
