Well - MRO brings a 25x increase in resolution ( .3m/pixel ) over normal MOC imaging, and 9x increase in resolution for MOC CPROTO techniques.....and colour.....and a 6km wide swath width (with the centre 1.5k in colour) (yes - thats 18,000 pixels across, with 4500 pixels wide in colour, well, nIR+Blue)
Depending on how far to the ground MPL got...we should see either...
Dead on or during Atmos.Entry - a crater and some debris
Dead after Chute deploy - backshell (with spacecraft inside) and chute
Dead after HS deploy - backshell (with spacecraft inside) and chute, and Heatshield impact site.
Dead as desribed by review board - backshell (with spacecraft inside) and chute, heatshield impact, and lander impact site and debris.
imho the single best thing about HiRise (the MRO camera) is that the images will get dumped online a-la MER for our consumption - unlike the 6 month MSSS embargo for MOC images. I worry, perhaps unduely, as to what release policy will be in place for MSL imagery as three imaging systems on MSL are all MSSS projects.
