Soccer Balls in Saturn's Rings
Here is an idea I have had percolating in my primitive biological brain for a while:
For a close-up mission right into the rings of Saturn, how about dropping a group of probes about the same shape and size as soccer balls loaded with miniturized instruments to image and analyze the ring particles and boulders. They could bounce off the ring particles, taking measurements as they briefly touch down before moving off to other targets in the ring system.
The soccer ball probes could also be used to take a quick whiff of the upper layers of the atmospheres of Saturn and Titan (and Enceladus?) before burning up (I am assuming developing heat shielding for them would be a bit much at this point).
So what do you think?
