In Arizona they already shoot aluminum and mylar strips into the attics of homes to reflect some of the solar radiation and keep the homes cooler.
In the future, I suspect all homes and buildings will be enhanced with metal shielding of some form or another to shield from solar radiation, as both a comfort and safety feature.
In Calif, I suspect the metal shielding in walls could act as shielding from stray bullets in drive-by shootings. I recall reading about kids killed on numerous occasions from bullets passing through the plaster board/wood constructs that most housing uses.
Its amazing how location influences architecture and spawns ideas that might eventually have universal usage in construction.
Radiation shielding/'hood' protection - it's a ripe field for new technology patent$.
