Still requires current liquid water near surface for the methane to be continuously forming.
The conclusion of the scientists detecting the methane is that it is continuously forming since it breaks down quickly in the atmosphere.
Then if this mechanism is correct liquid water is continually present near surface on Mars.
Given the presence of continual liquid water near the surface protected from UV rays, I think many if not most biologists would say life probably exists there.
