re: Composing a CAD marketing list

Nobody mentioned here yet who the prime suspect is behind x-cad.
Early email responses from X-cad contained Alibre.com in the message header - then people were saying there was a delay getting a resonse, then the responses didn't show alibre.
Other furums and press coverage have revealed that the x-cad.net domain is registered to a Camey P(greek name). There is sonmeone with a remakably similar name at Alibre for sure...

Check out the functionality of Alibre at their website. Then try to guess how much of that functionality will make it into x-cad. Curreent guess is solid models, maybe assemblies, but not 2d detail drawings - essential for most users.

Solidworks did a similar thing with solidedge origin. 3D modelling, no assemblies, import export as step, iges - no 2D drawings.

PTC made their prodesktop express available for free but then seemed to loose interest in low cost cad and withdrew it without capitalising on the user base. That was fuly functional, parts, assemblies, configuratins, 2D drawings, assy drawings auto BOM etc.

These are engineering cad systems aimed at manufacturing, not much use for architectural work.

By the way the counter looks like hitting 100,000 this by the end of the week - over 90,000 now.
