Actually, I think both DiGregorio and Hoagland truly believe the nonsense they each promote. At the same time, both are self-promoters interested in securing more than their fair share of fifteen minutes of fame. And both are not knowledgable enough to know how silly their ideas are. However, Barry, who at least has a college education in the sciences, should know better. Hoagland, on the other has something Barry does not...an "Angstrom Medal." :-)
