It is an ongoing project...
It HAS taken data and produced papers... just recently they installes a 'nuller' to allow the light of a star to be reduced to allow seeing the things near it... this is still in the engineering phase...
The IF project has VERY high priority, we have been fighting for many years to add small 'outrigger' scopes in our parking lot to allow the interferometer reach its full potential... lawsuits, as I have discussed in other threads, have held this up for years...
