Space/Science » in reply to Ice lake found on Mars

I've noticed that...

...a number of space oriented bulletin boards have posters discussing this as if the discovery of ice on Mars is someting new. Not so. We've known about water ice on the surface of Mars for a very long time.

In reality, what makes this interesting is confirming that we will be able to readily find accessible patches of water ice at the surface in some locations on Mars. I think this is point you're making in posting this discovery here.

What would be a remarkable discovery would be finding liquid water on Mars. To date, we've not found even a single drop. One hopes that MARSIS will find liquid acquifers beneath the surface.

Apart from that, its a wonderful picture.
