P linked an op-ed that said:
>Debkafile, the private Israeli intelligence service, which
>is always entertaining but often in error, reports that
>al-Qaida is shifting more than 1,000 of its operatives
>from Iraq for terror offensives in Europe and elsewhere
>in the Middle East.
Always take Debka File with a grain-of-salt. This op-ed has good news and bad news.
The Good News:
The fly paper / bug zapper is working. Bad guys are dying like flies in Iraq which is exactly where we want them to die.
The Bad News:
Al Qaeda realizes their bad guys are being wasted in Iraq and is changing strategy.
There is a subtle point about the War on Terror. Until the madressas are shutdown in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt, we want bad guys to die in Iraq. We want these people to easily flow into Iraq through Syria so they can die in the bug zapper. Eventually we will be forced to shutdown the madressas and then empty out the pipeline. That will mean taking on Saudi Arabia and playing hardball with Mubbarek of Egypt and Musharraf of Pakistan. Unfortunately we're not ready for that next step. Let us hope that Al Qaeda is unable to resist the allure of Iraq for another year or two.
