My views on antiques can be summed up as "form follows function"

In otherwords, if I see anything designed by Frank Llyod Wright then I must have it!

No seriously, you make some good points. But the risk in non-paper assets is that they can be easily destroyed or devalued (One ding can cost thousands! One fire and you can be wiped out!)

What amazes me is that you can drive around any well to do neighborhood and if you look in any open garage doors, you can see that in many of the houses, the garages are almost completely full of junk that the home's occupants apparently can't seem to part with!

It seems like the bigger the house, the more they need to have a garage sale to get rid of all the unused stuff sitting in their garage!

Also, look at all the storage sheds that are being rented out there by the millions! I have an aunt that will tell you that she has 4 or five sheds she is renting accross the US where she is storing stuff from previous moves. This woman doesn't have the money to support all that junk or the rent she is paying to keep it! the thing is, that some of it is really nice stuff, but she will never have a home big enough to display all of it. So it is really a waste.

I know it is her choice and theirs to keep what they want, but I wonder if we are suffering from a glut of material "stuff"...

Now back to Frank Llyod Wright: I think I'm drawn to his work because of it's asian minimalist roots. I really like my home to be minimally cluttered (unlike my mind). I do love asian collectables...
