I have yet seen anything other than your words to suggest that Mauritania will now become a fundamentalist state. I doubt we'll see elections any time soon also.
It could go the way of Pakistan, it could go the way of Iran, it could give the rest of the world a double take by really writing a good constitution (hopefully better than the drafts from Iraq) and holding peaceful and fair elections. Who knows?
