What source gives the Mullahs of Iran their power?

And how could the west attack that source of power?

Are enough Iranians blinded by their Islamic faith that they are willing to arrest, torture, and even kill other Iranians because the Mullah's of Iran tell them to do so? Or is it all about money? In otherwords, do the Mullahs of Iran buy loyalty from certain loyalists, foreigners, and others that helps to put down any potential rebellion?

I would think that sooner or later an army general or someone else would rise up internally, tap into any anti-mullah public sentiment, and overthrow the "theocratic" government of Iran.

That wasn't possible in Iraq (despite the fact that Sadam never really tapped into a religious ferver and despite years of trying). I believe that was because Sadam had completely criminalized all centers of power in Iraq to his benefit. In effect he was running Iraq like it an organized crime family. Are things operated in a similair manner in Iran? Have the Mullah'sof Iran so completely protected themselves that it is nearly impossible to directly challenge their power base?

If an internal insurgency or rebelion is not possible, then how do you defeat the Mullahs of Iran?

In otherwords and to simplify the question: Why are "the Mullahs of Iran" so seemingly all-powerful if the people of Iran would prefer a change to a more secular form of government?

It should be easy for the Iranian people to smuggle weapons and other anti-government/resistance goods into Iran. But it appears that they don't...There are certainly many Iranians living abroad who should be willing to support such activities through financial and other means...But they don't. Why? Iran should be a prize worth fighting for, especially for Iranians that are persecuted, forced to flee, etc... Why don't they put up some sort of fight?

For better or for worse, it's just not possible for the West to lead a direct attack against the Iranian government at this time...The world can't even unite around the idea of denying the Iranian Mullah's access to nuclear technology. Keep in mind that we all live in a politically correct world where any attack against the Mullahs of Iran will be potrayed as an attack against Islam in general. That would be true even if Al Jazzera wasn't broadcasting anti-western propaganda to the Muslim masses...The only way that the West could become involved in such a battle would be if the Iranians themselves were to begin a (2nd) Iranian revolution.

Just my 2 cents.
