Electric/hybrid cars and a national rail system
What is being done to make them more affordable?
In the 1950s, Eisenhower had a choice between a national monorail system or the interstate highway system. The car companies pushed for the latter.
Comments about Amtrack aside, I would like to see more rail service all over the country. If they want fewer cars using fuel and spewing pollution, this makes sense to me.
Of course telecommuting should perhaps also be on the rise. Ever read E. M. Forrester's The Machine Stops? One has to wonder if we'll all be in a virtual world and never have to leave our rooms?
