The Israeli withdrawal from Gaza provides the Palestinian Authority with its first major test of statehood. A failure here will curtail other withdrawals in the West Bank. The Palestinians have a real opportunity to prove they are capable of running their own nation. Lets hope they can rise to the occasion.

As for Israel's security, its withdrawal from Gaza will prove to be one of the best things it has done in years. If the Palestinians succeed they win. If the Palestinians fail, they still win. It was a remarkably smart move.
