I don't know nuffin' bout no style sheets, Miss Scarlet.
Plain vanilla HTML, including tables, I can do -- and it sounds like that's the task you've got.
In fact, it sounds superficially very much like a project I crunched together this past Spring: the archive index for Ink Pot, a lit zine I've been working with for more than a year.
When I got it, the data base was kept in a half-dozen Excel spreadsheets. I combined them into a single new one, with enough categories to sort the list anywhichway... but I knew better than to touch the "save as HTML" option in Excel. I found a few online HTML tutorials, taught myself tables (it's really easy), then cut and pasted from the spreadsheet.
Once I got the alphabetical lists done, it was cake to re-sort the spreadsheet for the different categories (poetry, short, flash, etc...) and use it as a guide to copy from one HTML page to another. I use a 'wysiwyg' editor I was lucky enough to get while it was still freeware -- any one of them will do.
There's also a bunch of templates out there that you could, essentially, plug your stuff into. I decided to build my own, for the learning.
