Current Events » in reply to I noticed both of you did a standing broad jump over the question.

It's a dumb question to ask an unqualified person.

I pointed out that I am not qualified to answer it. I also pointed out that our previous head of FEMA wasn't qualified to answer it either.

I don't need to answer that question. That's why we (are supposed to) hire specialists to do those things.

I don't install my own electricity either. Would you ask a horse show specialist into your house to do that?

Fox has designed systems that deal with waste water removal, and he worked with a weather prediction company for a little while. He has a clue. You want a better answer? Ask Don. He has the professional chops.

What you suggest is that I think a partisan hack from the Democratic Party would do a better job than the partisan hack from the Republican Party whom we had formerly. I don't. I think that Presidential appointees should be chosen on their qualifications for the job. I think they ought not to falsify their resumes. I think that the Executive branch ought to vet the people it puts up for office, especially those whose work is to save lives and property in crisis, before they send the nomination to Congress.

Ask me to deploy resources to cope with a major disaster? Sure! And as an encore, I'll design the vehicle that will take our first astronauts to Mars. I'm just as qualified to do that, and fewer people will die as a result.

Your assignment is to develop, and deliver, 40 weeks' worth of toddler and preschool programming to a population that draws on a three-county area with a wide range of incomes and abilities. That would be 5 hours of performance time a week, plus bibliography selection, researching and sometimes writing games and fingerplays, and designing an interesting art activity to develop fine muscle skills and spatial relationship awareness that can be completed by a 3-year-old in 10 minutes for 50 cents per child. You will also answer 1200 reference questions per month on a wide variety of topics, mostly without the internet, for people of all ages. No one will die if you can't do it, but you may be able to kill someone's interest in reading or fail to provide information for homework or a family crisis.

I have described part of what I do every month. I don't think you would be qualified to do it without training. Yet I have no doubt that you would be able to look at my results and know whether I had done my job correctly.

You can't defend someone else's incompetence by pointing out that the critics couldn't do his job.
