So... if the Education Secretary says in public something not only really rude and insensitive but also quite wrong, and you think it is dumb, we should just let it slip by?
Has anyone else noticed a lot of crazy things that have happened in the past 24 hours?
(ain't quoting nothin' here)
- ID supporters are using SETI (which they oppose because they don't believe there's anyone else in the entire Universe besides us) as a means to support ID
- A US Marine commander told a bunch of Iraqis that the sound of bombs and gunfire are the sounds of peace (yeah, I know what he means, but it just seems so Orwellian)
- Bill O'Reilly said we should assassinate the head of Syria if he doesn't follow in lock-step with the USA? It doesn't matter if the head of Syria is not a nice guy, I just thought the pundits for the USA was supposed to be above such things? (or is this just dumb and therefore dismissable?)
- And the thing about Congressional Republicans wanting to slash food support for people who need to eat.
I think I reached my limit today of the insanity I am seeing in this otherwise great nation these days. And seeing as I do have something of my intellect and individuality left (but for how long?), I felt it my duty to say something.
And now, a very accurate quote from Thomas Paine:
"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue, but moderation in principle is always a vice."
- Thomas Paine, "The Rights of Man", 1792
