A tremendous amount of information flows past me in the course of a day when I'm looking around the net. "Peripheral information" is items that pop up that are interesting, plausible in some ways, and would add new data if true, but the sources are "iffy" enough that I'm in a wait-and-see mode.
Some bloggers are running full tilt with this as a "terror attack," and if some of the items were true, they'd have a point. But that's a big "if." That FBI lady who has been making a career out of declaring that the Oklahoma Federal bombing was an Islamist plot has been on almost EVERY damn talk radio show. Sorry, but she's still stuck in my bullshit filter, and I'm not inspired to do my own research.
If I was writing the Drudge Report, I'd bore people to tears.
