I like to keep my consciousness in this dimension as much as possible.
As long as we're analyzing thought processes:
The kind of mindset that many leftists have tends to be attracted to "paranormal" ideas about reality being malleable because you want it to be. Wish fulfillment. Finding the "secret buttons" and "shortcuts" to work the material of the self and the universe, anything other than the slogging hard work it takes in real life.
Religions attractive to the Left involve "devices" that change things without throwing any nasty judgment into it. Self-indulgent self-examination. Eating special diets. Arranging furniture. Pantheistic, vague concepts of the supernatural. Concepts like Gaea, or gods who are sort of "out there" and not really in the way. Nobody is telling you how to live your life, and you can put the icons up on the shelf in the closet when it gets boring.
Conventional religions make these people uncomfortable, since most of them involve a powerful and sentient being on the other end who has very specific ideas about how their lives should be led, and very specific ideas about who's calling the shots and who owes who. "Daddy" issues often crop up here.
I'm no psychiatrist, and don't even play one on TV, but this stuff isn't that hard.

Explains quite a bit, doesn't it?
