The Senate emerged from Rule 21 hiding after Republicans were able to defeat a Democrat led Filibuster that was launched in a vain attempt to keep the chamber closed "until the 2008 elections".

Senator Lindsay Graham is said to have played a critical role in convincing enough Democrats to defect from the side of Senators Harry Reid and Barak Obama so that the Filibuster could be defeated and the chamber could be allowed to emerge from Rule 21 hiding.

One issue said to have inspired the defecting Democrats was that an apparently drunk Senator Ted Kennedy was "laughing in a very devilish sounding laugh" during the filibuster event that "just wierded me out" according to unnamed Democratic Senator from somewhere south of the Mason Dixon line. "Lindsay came to me and asked, 'Come on...Are you going to support that?' and I just knew I couldn't". The filibuster was defeated with 61 votes "Yea" and 39 votes "Nea".

A precise list of the votes is not available as the members have all been sworn to secrecy.

Senator Reid emerged from the chamber claiming "This was a very successful meeting...I have received assurances from at least one Republican Senator that the concerns of the minority will not fall on deaf ears..."

No Republican Senators would confirm Reid's Assessment as this reporter refuses to interview John McCain.
