This sound similar to what I use in my book, War Against Gravity. In that book, a Venus terraforming ship crashes on the surface of Venus (Thanks to some Martian terrorist).
Venus hasn’t been terraformed yet so it is still a hellish place. The ship can survive for a couple of weeks because it has a chemical that turns heat energy into light energy. As it does this, it cools and keeps the ship cool. But the ship has only so much of this chemical and once it runs out, the people will fry.
