I think you could make your spacecraft lighter by not requiring a landing and/or put more fuel onboard, and by hovering say, 1km above it's surface - you do avoid the issue of rotation and thus can thrust 24/7, and every ounce of that thrust is used to it's maximum and as a result, despite gravity being /r^2, you'll get more from your fuel by using the invisible teather than actually landing.
