This problem is not temporary, its structural.
Having lots of people out of work, and having more skilled workers out there than there are positions for them, has one inevitable consequence. It keeps salaries down. You know that's how capitalism works.
Unemployment is profitable for employers, that's why corporate profits are up. So where's the incentive to put people to work or cut them a bigger piece of the pie? Keeping people poor is profitable, at least in the short term, and as long as the social costs of the unemployment are not borne by those who are profiting from it.
A society full of poor people doing shit work is dysfunctional, it is not properly utilizing its human resources. It is wasting human talent, and when a nation does that, profit doesn't matter. It is squandering its most precious resource. And in the long run, that profits no one.
