Except in Vietnam we lost 50k over something like 10 years.
It started during kennedy (If you want to count the "advisors") really got going during Johnson, and didn't end until the left made the determination that it was "Nixon's War".
I really hope the Iraqi confict finds a resolution sooner than 3 Presidential administrations down the road. I think it will, as the people there are already tired of the violence.
But with all of that said, I think American troops are on Iraqi soil to stay Permenantly. Mostly as a trip-wire force like those in South Korea.
Oh and then there is Afganistan... I don't think US troops will leave there any time soon either.
The numbers might be reduced substantially, but they won't go to zero.
