JUst makes sense - what would you do, if you or a relative were "detained" and tortured? Love yer torturer?
And especially if that torturer had invaded your country for no good reason except to steal your natural resources? After all, if they had a legitimate interest in your people they wouldn't have starved them for 12 years.
