It's a place called "The Olde Angel Inn" at Niagara-on-the-Lake and it's been around since 1816. My favorite place for steak and kidney pie and Newcastle draft.
That particular evening was the night before a huge re-enactment of the War of 1812 was going to take place. There were Americans in full garb on the other side of the Inn and yes, everyone was pretty well lit (including myself). I had fun filming and talking to them. I can hardly believe the charm of the olde inn, it's so rich in history.
Sir Isaac Brock, who comandeered all of the Upper Canadian Militia was slain around the corner in 1812 and there are memorials all over the place. I like to sit beneath his monumnet and look down the escarpment to the Niagara River where the Americans were slain in large numbers by the militia, some Indians and British soldiers (damn those Americans trying to take over our country!) I used to climb Brock's monument when I was a child. There are small catacombs in there they apparently kept prisoners in. Don't know if it was a myth or not. Wouldn't climb it today....would give me claustrophobia I think.
Anyway, here's another photo from that night:
