The numbers don't seem surprising

Though, as pointed out in the second link, they don't entirely agree with much of what we've been hearing about support for the Prez being so low. I wonder if it indicates a current negativity toward war-related politics of any stripe: we're unhappy with the Prez because he took us into this conflict, and yet we're also unhappy with the Dems because they criticize that very same war.

I guess that too really isn't all that surprising, though. Many of us supported Bush going in, and when the WMD issue evaporated in a gigantic ball of vapor like the noxious remnants of a fuel-air explosive, we weren't left with much beyond the knawing realization that we'd done something really quite terrible and pointless. So yes we want it to end, and yes we wish we could take it back, but I think it's still pretty tough for a lot of us to face up to just how badly used we were. There's enough bitterness and resentment to be distributed liberally (if you will) to anyone who chooses to address the war.
