If you like massive trilogies
I recommend Peter Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy. He is not quite the writer that Simmons is and he uses the d.e.m. also but it was great fun and a very appealing vision of the future in many ways.
I have read all the Foundation novels that AA had a hand in and Foundation and Empire is well worth the read. After that one they tend to go south.
