"Key roles are played by computers and communications technologies in Metaman. Stock argues that the deepening union between humans and technology is symbiotic in nature, so the old question of which will become the master and which the slave is inapplicable. If the purposes and goals of a global superorganism are to be served, both humans and computers will choose to live together in a co-operative relationship, each helping the other to survive and thrive"
While Stock got great reviews, it seems to me he avoided the questions:
"computers will choose"
but someone would have to teach the computers to "choose". and then why should the computers "choose" at all?
Since Stock does not understand the questions, he doesn't have to answer them, as they never occur to him.
The good reviews are a puzzle. Were the reviewers really that limited? Or is most of what they read even duller?

it seems obvious why the term "Metaman" never took hold
