Islam is not the issue here, even though a number of hardline Muslims apparently oppose the activity on religious grounds. Public safety is. What we consider to be a harmless pasttime for children and adults has become a competitive and sometimes violent team sport for grown men in Pakistan.
In the good old US of A, on the other hand, we have hardline Christians opposing same-gender marriage on religious grounds, and nobody falls off of roofs and kills themselves as a result of that. Does that indicate that Americans are not capable of democracy, or that we have people with strong opinions?
