History of Religion classes needed

Views such as creationism are fine to bring up in a non-science course as long as schools have a right to shine the light on religious history. It's my contention that the more people are educated on the historical context behind the world's religions the more likely they are to see the hypocrisy in all of it.

The tough part in this country into putting a course like that into the public school systems is that the Christians would try to take over the curriculum and put their spin on it all. Just as in a church sermon, they'd tend to omit the damning parts of the historical record and only stress the tolerable parts. I think, once children in their formidable years got to hear the full story, many would start to question the dogma their parents and preachers have laid on them.

I attended a presentation by a British man that had written a book about the history of God and he remarked during the talk that Great Britain has religion very much wound up in its society and even in many Government functions but yet the citizenry in large part could care less about it. He figured, since the schoolchildren there get early exposure to many different religions, that they either burned out of it or were simply more informed about the illogical nature of all the teachings.
