Screw Norton, and the horse it rode in on
Something got past it, created a "denial of service". Because Word 2003 does a virus scan before opening a file, and couldn't, Word was hanging...
And I'm a writer and editor! The very last thing I need is for Word not to work.
I installed AVG (free version), and ZoneAlarm (free version), then uninstalled Norton Internet Security.
Guess what? Everything works now. Big surprise.
Word to the wise: Firefox is better than IE because most hackers are writing malware to exploit IE. Anti-virus and firewalls other than Norton may be better for the same reason.
