Logistics, you take it with you, or do without. Plain and simple, no way around it. A great deal of your personnel skillsets would be people to extract raw materials from whatever could be found. No matter where it is. And most likely under fire.
Agree on Logistics:
No matter what you call them; Corps of Engineers, Combat engineers, Seebees, they are Infrastructure Specialists. Without them, the relatively small number of combatants, don't get to do their job.
I just read the “Hunters in the Great Dark, Part 2: The Weapons of Deep-Space Warfare.”
