It is not difficult. In fact, it is necessary for humans to do so. If you can't see the wonder on the faces of Einstein, Sagan, Hawking, (and lately, everywhere I look:) Neil deGrasse Tyson and Michio Kaku... for example, then you haven't been looking.
People tend to get into those fields because what they know of the territory blows their minds. If their equations don't show the outline of a giant monkey in the sky then we might have to live with it.
