Are you supporting the alternative? Maybe you should. You could probably make a good case that a dictator able to obliterate large swaths of his own discontent population would be able to contain radical Islam better than a democracy.
This was exactly the rationale given for supporting thugs who opposed communism for many years. Were they right?
