rJames Lovelock doesn't really believe what he says.
If James Lovelock has lost all hope for the future of humanity, he would either:
(1) commit suicide.
(2) Start to take narcotics or booze as a form of escapism.
(3) Eat, drink and be merry, for sometime in the future he and all would die.
(4) Or he would try and seek God.
