Just GOOGLE failed defense project USA and you will find an incredible 4,090,000 matches. Perhaps there is something to it.
The Army's rapid-fire artillery piece http://www.defenselink.mil/news/May2002/n05082002_200205085.html
The worthless "Patriot 1" missile system.

Etc, etc, etc.
You might also have noticed how often USA helicopters drop from the skies or crash killing all aboard. If civilian air travel was 1% as risky, it would be shut down altogether.
The problem with high-tech is that it is VERY difficult to operate on a dirty, confused battlefield. Is anybody willing to bet that THIS wonderful rifle will actually make it into service and be accepted by the grunts? I will be delighted to take your money.

Ever seen how many high-tech projects FAIL?
The whole thread (28 posts)
- REALLY OFF-TOPIC: The USA needs a new standard rifle.
- Concluding remark on this thread.
- A replacement is already under development and test
- Pardon me. I meant a GOOD replacement.
- Did you even read the article before making your 'expert pronouncement of fact'?
- did you miss the bit about XM8 being lighter and more reliable than M-16? (n/t)
- So sayeth David, it must be true
- He's right.
- Too heavy at 18 lbs. MUCH too expensive. No improved hitting power.
- Pardon me. I meant a GOOD replacement.
- USA loses and old standard.
