It's not about what people "like." It's about the math.
I think you're putting a remarkable weight on an election victory that was only 1.4 percent larger than Bush's in 2004. (Obama won by about 5 million votes, Bush by 3 million.)
I didn't see a lot of Democrats dropping to their knees in 2005 saying, "well, Bush won. I guess that's that. We have to deal with it."
I recall four solid years of trying to rip Bush's throat out, particularly when the Democrats got Congress back.
Remember when Democrats tried tacking Iraq defunding onto continuing funding resolutions?
Hell, Reagan won re-election by almost 17 million votes, and the Democrats still spent four years waging total war on him.
Next time the shoe is on the other foot, I expect liberal views on political minorities to change radically. Again.
