Just finished using a machine with Linux based "Linspire" instead of Windows. The machine has decent specs with a 2.8ghz Pentium Intel chip and 512MB RAM. The web access is horrendous even when hooked up via DSL. It behaves like a dial-up connection...s.....l.....o.....w.
I have a feeling that it's not just a software problem considering the way the web pages are universally designed primarily for windows or netscape. Partial page load ups, visible placeholders, the page loading is jerky as if it can't decide what it wants to load first.
Managing and opening programs offline was much slower as well. It's almost as if the operating system is flipping a coin first as to whether or not it wants to obey the users command.
Maybe some versions of Linux are much better than "Linspire", but I think Windows has no worry about being displaced soon. But Linux operating systems clearly have some serious maturing to do.
How can anyone use Linux?
