The issue is not that this woman is a walking, talking fanatic harpy from Hell, or even that's she's conservative. The issue is that conservatives actually considered her seriously as Presidential material. And conservatives still galvanically make excuses for her and her partisans, simply because she's a conservative.
And the only reason you, as a supposedly cool and rational scientific thinker, moralist and student of history, covers for this fundowacko nut case, (even though her religious philosophies are polar opposite from yours), is because your party needs these people. There simply aren't enough failed entrepreneurs, demoralized white suburbanites and bitter adolescent ideologues in the GOP to win national elections any more. You have to make excuses for these mindless cretins because you need their numbers and their passion. You also need their money. Let's not forget the money.
You're a fraud, TB. You will accept any idiocy from a conservative, simply because they are conservative. That's cynicism, pure and simple. Your party is learning this the hard way, right now in Congress, as these troglodytes lead you into pointless crusades you cannot win and that are plainly opposed to your interests--after which they invariably bite the hand that feeds them. How long before they start calling you "moderate", "Establishment", or "RINO".
