Iraq failure or success TBD very soon.

US is doing the correct thing by making it clear we won't stick around if they become a sectarian shia islamic republic ala Iran. UIA (sectarian shias) who won a plurality need the Kurds to form a government but the Kurds may go with UNCW (alliance of moderate sunnis and Allawi's secular shias + some smaller parties). Also, some groups in UIA are dissatisfied and may break off. Fadheela the most outspoken. If Fadheela joins UNCW and the Kurds it will be close to the 183 seats need to form a presidential council. Some additional independents still a part of UIA would be needed. A tough prospect.

A better solution would be a national unity government with all sectors of Iraqi poltics represented. UIA has opposed this thus far and certain factions of UIA are trying to monopolize the most powerful ministries, causing fractures in UIA.

America should support only a secular government. It's Iraq's choice for their leadership, but the US doesn't have to stick around regardless.

More at Iraq the model.
