For once we nearly agree.

We experienced a similair thing here in the Midwest with the great Mississippi Flood of 1993.

Mostly poorer neighborhoods were impacted. (River people don't tend to be well off).

They took the Federal assistance and ran...Selling their flood damaged property to wealthier folks who are mow starting to repopulate the flood plain will built-up near-mansions.

Some towns are nearly empty, where neighborhoods once stood...

The street grids are still there, but most blocks are devoid of homes, save one or two that rebuilt.

The only point of disagreement that I have is that you can't really blame any one or anything but the flood itself: The demographics were changed overnight, and they are NEVER going to be the same...Probably rightly so: It would be cruel to move poor people back into a flood plain to live in the same squaller they once lived in.

So sad for the politicians who "represented" them. I guess they'll need to look for a new line of work.
