The investigation is apparently dotting a procedural "i" that has yet to be done. The motivation of DOD to hide the true circumsatnce of his death is understandable, if misguided, both to protect his fellow rangers, and to avoid the embarresment.
Why he would be fragged by fellow rangers on purpose is beyond me. He wasn't a high rank, E-4 I think, and he sought to minimize his celebrity as he apparently declined the roll of Army posterboy/recruiter extraordinair to continue as a "boots-on-the-ground" ranger.
