Nesting pair from a nearby lake. The pond is 3 feet deep with a lip of 10 inches above the water and some hide-i-holes under flagstone for some of the fish. At least sixty goldfish swim are in there now and one massive koi. Every spring I put floating plants in for shade and a place for the fish to spawn. It's when they are flopping around (spring fever) in these plants that a heron get's 'em. But they spook easy, and usually drop the fish after inflicting mortal wounds. Lost at least a half dozen last year, and they were big, 8 year old fish. Two hand big.
If I catch 'em on vid, I'll post it. Want to set one up out back to see what sort 'o critters move around out there. The other day someone got some good video of a mountain lion couple o' miles south of here.
