Were it not for the public fear of terrorism, and the image* of strong, resolute leadership George Bush successfully projected following Sep. 11, plus the ineptitude of the Democratic candidate in 2004, there would have been absolutely no way on earth that man would have been reelected, especially given such a weak economic performance during those 4 years.

As one media personality aptly described it, watching George Bush attempt to deliver a coherent public speech is like watching a drunken bum trying to cross the street during a harsh, blowing winter storm...you anxiously hold your breath, hoping against hope that he somehow succeeds in staggering over to the other side without falling in a heap..."he's almost there...he's almost made it..oh damn, he nearly made it to the end of that sentence!"

* - be careful to note that "image" is not synonymous with "reality", nor did I mention the word "competence"...
