I think lasers are good as a beacon

I did a calculation a long time ago that showed that we have have the technology to signal our presence to civilizations ~10 ly away using lasers....

Imagine you are doing spectroscopy on a star... and in addition to the normal spectrum you find a very narrow emission peak at 1064 nm... (The frequency of a YAG laser)... That is pretty much a dead giveaway for a technological civilization at that star...
