The way the American public feels about a president that (take your pick) 1. lied to them and attacked another nation in order to make himself "a war-time president," or 2. surrounded himself with such ineptitude that he was relying on intelligence that was totally off the mark. And then compounded the errors by selling congress and the American people on the dangers posed by a rouge nation threatening us with WMD's.
Hey, take your choice----1 or 2. Still makes Bush an international oops.
When you say, <"This isn't about Iraq for them, and never has been"> you are on the money. It is about the American people deciding if they should be outraged about a president deliberately lying to them, or ashamed about having elected an administration that has no concern for the truth either way. A convenient interpretation of facts or a medicinal lie have the same consequence.
