Touchy subject obviously

There are lots of alternatives for generating electricity. I think reduced consumption is the answer. Fair rate brackets for residential and industrial customers in accordance with expected supply, with an exorbitant rate bracket for people who use more than their fair share. It would also be great at the same time if individual consumers can monitor their hourly, or even minute-to-minute usage, maybe with an internet software package from their local utility. When people discover how much power they are sucking up, they will do things to control their consumption. Just like watching their money.

More renewables ought to be used to shore up current electrical generating supply. Examples would be wind turbines, OTEC, solar troughs, and biofuels. Summer peak consumption is most likely due to air conditioners being turned on. This technology can be targeted with taxes, efficiency rebates, and inefficiency fines, maybe even building code minimums before being allowed to purchase air conditioners. Some people think that nukes are a solution for everything, for example to synthesize fuel for transportation. Myself, I don't support nuclear power as an energy source for transportation. Too many plants would have to be built. I would like to see single-seat vehicles instead. Of course there will always be those who will buy a Hummer and drive up the cost of fuel for everyone else. This is another example of technology that should be targeted and sanctioned for excessive consumption.
