It has helped inflate my salary over the last few years. Thank you America! My best gig is working for an American company exploring for oil outside of America. I wouldn't have gotten on the team for domestic exploration.
The internal laws of the USA are purely a matter for the USA (unless they impinge on individuals to the degree that North Korea's energy policy has, for instance).
I know several provinces of the USA where "relatively" easy oil is to be found, but believe me - the total production of all those areas will not save you from the consequences of a grossly imbalanced energy economy. The Gulf of Mexico is the Goose's Golden Egg and it is already very actively explored. There's a reason (not just politics) why there is less oil production to the east. Alaska is a relatively small chicken in comparison and the rest are quail.
It's all too late now, anyway (imho). The USA is so dependent on imported energy that it will always be running a trade deficit, even without financing global warfare.
